Students of the University of Nigeria, Enugu Campus (UNEC), on Tuesday went on a rampage, destroying cars, buildings as well as properties on campus due to poor power supply on campus.The UNEC  students, who locked up the lecture halls, held rallies protesting againstthe situation on Monday. The situation. however, degenerated later that night, giving way to violence.According to reports, it was discovered that there is hardly any power supply from the national grid in the student hostels, while the generators provided by the school management presently supply power for only two hours a day.

According to reports, the Student Union Government on the 6th of June declared that students should boycott attending classes until the school authorities resolvethe power supply challenges. Since then, lectures have been suspended in the university.UNEC Student’s Protest Turns ViolentReports say policemen were seen at strategic locations on the campus after the incident on Tuesday. There was extensive damage to buildings in different parts of the campus – particularly the main hall and library.Glass windows in the buildings were smashed, while some of the doors were forced open. The security office was also vandalised.
