IPOB Lawyer Sues FG Over Alleged Killing Of Pro-Biafra Protesters
Posted by NovatricHuman rights lawyer, Ebun Olu-Adegboruwa hasaccused the Federal Government of violating therights of the members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).Olu-Adegboruwa also said the government trampled on the group’s right to assemble and associate freely.The lawyer, in a suit filed at the Federal High Court in Lagos, also sought an order compelling the Federal Government to release IPOB members in police custody.Olu-Adegboruwa also said the military violated sections 39 and 40 of the constitution when it disrupted the meeting of the group, and allegedly killed its members.Over 30 members of IPOB were allegedly killed by the Nigerian Army during a ceremony held to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Biafra Republic on Monday, May 30, 2016.Punch reports that the lawyer also argued that since the government was allowed to celebrate the Armed Forces Remembrance Day, the Biafragroup has the right to also celebrate the Biafra Heroes’ Remembrance Day without hindrance.Olu-Adegboruwa wants the court to rule that the Army and police acted illegally when they disrupted IPOB’s rally and shot at them.You will recall that Ebun Olu-Adegboruwa instituted a suit against President Muhammadu Buhari at the Federal High Court in Lagos on Monday, June 22, 2015, to compel him to appoint ministers or cease to be President.
